With Isabel at the lead, students at Poly Prep Lower School went out to explore their neighborhood and found a variety of animals on buildings within two blocks of their school. Students then came back to the classroom and worked on drawings of some of the architectural details they found.
Inspired by Urban Animals and Isabel’s visits, the students of PS 241 have produced a beautiful book with photos taken on Isabel’s tour of the neighborhood and their own observations about these architectural details. Thanks to Behind the Book for helping to create this fun project!
Isabel reads Urban Animals and delivers her message about the excitement, fun, and importance of looking at the beautiful architecture all around us to 250 children at PS 321.
Isabel helps the students at PS 241 write about architectural details on their school and in the surrounding neighborhood!
This week Isabel is in the classroom with students at PS 241 reading her book Urban Animals and talking about architecture in their school’s neighborhood! This visit is another great Behind the Book event, designed to bring authors into public school classrooms. The students had some great questions ready and were eager to learn more about the process behind Isabel’s books.
What better way to learn numbers, colors, and shapes than by looking at the world around us! Buildings take on a new air when you begin looking for the circles, squares, diamonds, and lines that decorate them. Isabel’s fourth children’s book, Counting Colorful Shapes-Art Deco Style, is a colorful look at all the art deco designs and shapes in Miami Beach, Florida for young readers age 2 to 6.
Isabel will launch her new book at the 40th annual Art Deco Festival in Miami Beach, January 12 though January 15, 2017.
